About

Build your own masterpiece or choose from a wide selection of pre-designed sandwiches at Hole in the Wall Great Sandwiches! Awarded the title of "Best Sandwiches in Humboldt" in 2021 by the NCJ, they're a must try.

Located just a couple blocks down from the main Arcata Plaza, you will find this small stand alone shop. It's painted a colorful green and purple combination, so it's easy to spot. Additionally, you will recognize it by the awning, outdoor bench, and neon signs. This popular lunch spot can get busy, so if you're on a tight lunch schedule, we recommend placing your order ahead by phone.

Upon entering, you will find fridges lining one side of the restaurant and shelves lining the other. Inside the fridges, you'll find a variety of beverages - both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. They have an un-paralleled selection of craft beers to choose from. Though there are plenty of local brands, there are also some universal favorites. No matter what you favor, pale ale or IPA, you will surely find something to suit you. Some breweries include Rosie's, Ballast Point, Sierra Nevada, Mother Pucker, Fall River, North Coast Brewing Co., Gigantic, Corona, and more.

Even if you don't drink beer, you can always enjoy the wrapper art while you wait for your sandwich! Further, they have teas, juices, sodas, water, and other drinks to quench any thirst. Some examples include Yerba Mate Teas, Calypso Lemonades, sparkling sodas, Coca-Cola, Redbull, etc. On the opposite side, they have dozens of chips and other snacks to perfectly complement your sandwich and drink with a lunch combo. Chips include various Kettle brand flavors and Cheetos.

What's on the Menu

On the menu, you'll find many signature sandwiches to choose from including the popular Muffuletta, Italian Combo, Cobb, BLT, Reuben and Torta. Of course, you can also choose to build your own custom sandwich. On Fridays only, they offer a special Dungeness Crab sandwich. This is only available while they last! Additionally, they do have seafood based options including shrimp and sardine sandwiches.

Build Your Own

To build your own sandwich, you should refer to the large chalkboard menu on the right of the wall. You start with your choice of bread, whether you want a roll or slice. Next, you pick your cheese. Then, you can decide between a hot or cold sandwich. There are over two dozen meat options including pastrami, roast beef, chicken parmesan, garden burger, turkey, salami, etc. They've got it all! Not to mention, they even offer seafood choices. The sandwiches include basic condiments such as mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, jalapenos, and dressings. Any extras such as avocado, pesto, or extra meat come at an additional cost.
