Baker Beach is one of the few places that really does capture the wildness of the Northern California coast. Protected by the Trinidad Coastal Land Trust, it is a great place to relax, let the waves roll over the sea stacks, and listen to seabirds.
The beach sits just north of Trinidad and is part of a network of protected lands established to keep the region’s natural beauty accessible for generations to come.
The trailhead is easy to reach, and after a short walk through lush coastal forest and native plant restoration areas, the ocean opens up before you. Over the years, dedicated volunteers have worked hard to maintain the trails and preserve the habitat and serenity that define Baker Beach.
If you're after a day of adventure, then Baker Beach is also a great place to start a longer walk along the coast. You can head over to the Elk Head Trail or take a short drive to Patrick's Point State Park for some more hiking, tidepooling and spectacular views.
The whole area is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, with opportunities for birdwatching, nature photography, and even meditation or yoga on the sand.

A highlight of Baker Beach is the view. On clear days, you can actually see Trinidad Head to the south and the rugged outcroppings along the shore. The beach is framed by scenic bluffs, full of driftwood, and a favorite spot for photographers and artists.
The short access trail runs through a native plant garden with interpretive signs telling the story of the area's ecology and restoration. Wildlife is very much on display (osprey, harbour seals and even migrating whales in the distance at times).
It's a great place for beachcombing, having a picnic, or just generally enjoying the view. It really does make the ordinary feel special.
For the adventurous, you can bring a kite to fly in the steady coastal winds or try building a driftwood fort (a real favorite with families and the young).
The tide pools are lively during the minus tides, and with a guidebook or app, you can identify a multitude of marine life right at your feet. If you're an angler, surf fishing is popular, with the chance to catch surfperch and occasionally a striped bass.
Baker Beach is the kind of spot that makes you want to linger—whether you’re hunting for agates, watching for whales, or just letting the waves wash your worries away on the Redwood Coast.
