Legend has it that Show Low got its name following a marathon poker game between two early settlers disputing a ranch; after one rancher showed the deuce of clubs, the name show low stuck. Neighboring Pinetop was once a hub for the logging industry and in 1984 officially became Pinetop-Lakeside with the blending of two communities.
