About

Once a well-kept secret, Sand Harbor is a reminder of the alluring beauty of North Lake Tahoe.

Picturesque turquoise water, golden sandy beaches, towering pine trees, and majestic mountain ranges make this a top draw in the area. But Sand Harbor wasn't always the popular destination it is today.

In the early days, Sand Harbor was a quiet and unassuming place. It was where nature lovers, artists, and locals gathered. And they were content keeping the stunning beach area a secret.

Sand Harbor owes its name to the gentle, sandy inclines that lead to the water's edge. This natural feature has attracted visitors for generations.

When transportation improved in the 20th century, Sand Harbor gained wider recognition as more and more visitors vacationed in North Lake Tahoe. This sparked a new era of growth and popularity for the quaint beach.

Whether it's the allure of the shimmering lake, tranquil beaches, or the area's storied past, Sand Harbor continues to captivate all who visit. It's the perfect spot for family picnics, artists needing inspiration, and nature lovers.

Fun Facts & Cool Features

Did you know that Sand Harbor is a celebrity? Okay, it doesn't have a Hollywood Star, but it has been the backdrop for several films and countless photoshoots. And when you visit and note its jaw-dropping beauty, you'll understand why!

Another striking feature is the distinctive granite boulders scattered along the shoreline and the lake. Shaped and smoothed by millennia of wind and water, they're excellent platforms for diving into the deep, crystal-clear water.

Furthermore, Sand Harbor is the ideal location for water sports enthusiasts. The calm, sheltered water offers beginner paddle boarders and kayakers a safe haven.

The harbor is also home to the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. This fun-filled event attracts visitors worldwide and is held every summer. The festival allows one to enjoy classic Shakespearean performances in an unmatched outdoor setting.
