About

You'll be hard-pressed not to make a monkey face when visiting Monkey Rock in North Lake Tahoe.

Monkey Rock is a distinctive rock formation resembling a primate's face, a local favorite, and a visitor must-see. Additionally, it symbolizes the region's rich geological and cultural history.

Long before the first settlers arrived, the indigenous Washoe Tribe deeply respected the land and its natural formations. The tribe considered Monkey Rock \ a spiritual symbol and held it in high esteem.

Fast forward to the era of explorer John C. Frémont, who arrived in the 1840s. The distinctive rock formation was a key landmark for Frémont and his crew.

Over the years, Monkey Rock has witnessed the transformation of North Lake Tahoe from a remote wilderness to a beloved vacation hotspot.
