About

Picture a winding mountain drive that ends beside a river, where you catch the aroma of grilled steaks and trout. That is the welcome waiting you at Toccoa Riverside Restaurant.

Since 1992, this eatery has been attracting diners with its stunning waterside location, fresh trout, and juicy steaks. The setting draws diners from nearby Blue Ridge as well as kayakers and floaters enjoying the river’s current.

However, tragedy struck in 2012 when a blaze around 2:35 a.m. burned the wood-frame structure to the ground. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, ownership set about rebuilding, creating a better design with updated amenities and improved river views. Amazingly, it reopened in 2013!

While the view is breathtaking, it’s the menu that keeps folks returning. Fresh local trout takes center stage and award-winning steaks round out the offerings, along with a thoughtful selection of seafood that includes fried oysters and shrimp. Homemade desserts cap off each visit, made in-house and worth saving room for.

The restaurant has earned its standing as a long-standing tradition by keeping its focus on fresh ingredients and genuine hospitality. It’s this reputation that makes it a top draw for paddlers from the Sandy Bottoms Recreation Area to stop for a meal.

Add this time-tested restaurant to your North Georgia itinerary and enjoy riverside mountain dining!

Vibe

The rustic wooden lodge-like building is perched atop a knoll overlooking the Toccoa River. Warm lighting glows from the windows at dusk, and the structure blends with the woods.

The interior decor continues the cabin-style theme with wood beams, vaulted ceilings, and large windows. Here, every seat has a view of the river. A bar and river rock fireplace add to the atmosphere, making this a popular joint when the weather gets chilly.

Aside from the expansive dining room, guests can settle in at the bar for a drink before their meal, or opt for the River Rest outside, which is close to the water. The Pooch Patio is yet another option, letting you dine with your pet.

Perhaps the best way to sum up the vibe comes from the restaurant itself, which calls it "mountain time seating." Here, you’ll discover that easygoing spirit that flows smoothly like the water, making Toccoa Riverside Restaurant a perfect fit for a North Georgia vacation.

Toccoa Riverside Restaurant: Menu & Drinks

While the menu is only one page, what it offers is superb! Fresh local trout stands as the signature dish and is served with your choice of two sides. Best of all, you can have the trout smoked, broiled, fried, blackened, seasoned with lemon pepper, pecan-crusted, or stuffed with crab. The sampler lets you enjoy a combo of popular preparations.

Other seafood options include scallops, shrimp, catfish, salmon, and fish of the day. Like the trout, there are several seasoning options, making these another popular choice.

Land Fare rises to the challenge, with the award-winning steaks taking point. Cooked to order and lightly seasoned, the choice cuts will satisfy your appetite after a day of hiking or paddling.

Additional noteworthy menu items include handhelds like the Angus burger, trout sandwich, Cajun chicken tacos, and the Black Bean Burger for vegetarians. The various salads offer healthy alternatives, while pasta dishes like the smoked trout in a creamy basil-garlic sauce are delicious and comforting. The homemade desserts deserve a mention too, offering a sweet finish that rounds out the meal.

The drink selections will appeal to a variety of palates. The Aspen cocktail is a grapefruit-flavored creation that balances tartness with refreshing notes, making it a favorite on warm afternoons. A glass of wine or a cold beer works for those who prefer to keep things simple.

The Toccoa Riverside Restaurant honors the land and water of North Georgia, where a meal becomes a highlight of your Blue Ridge vacation.
