Fun Facts & Cool Features
Explorer Divers Merida takes you into the heart of one of the Yucatan's unique geological wonders: the cenotes. These natural wells are exclusive to the Yucatan Peninsula and were vital to the Mayan culture because above-ground water was scarce.
The Mayans built villages around the cenotes as a source of water and spirituality. Ancient Mayan artifacts, believed to have been tossed in as an act of worship or sacrifice, have been found in the freshwater cenotes.
Every dive is a new adventure because each cenote is a unique formation and ecosystem. With crystal-clear water, diving these life-giving wells is a chance in a lifetime! Divers get to explore the Kankirixche and Nohmozon cenotes located southeast of Merida.
Beyond the cenotes is the vast Gulf of Mexico, rich with vibrant coral reefs, schools of tropical fish, and, occasionally, sea turtles and manta rays. Each dive offers a unique glimpse into a bustling underwater ecosystem, captivating divers with its dynamic and colorful scenery.
Explorer Divers Merida also offers a range of courses and diving packages to suit different skill levels and interests. Whether it's a beginner's introduction to scuba diving or an advanced wreck diving expedition, there's something for everyone.
After your dive, refuel and relive your scuba adventure at the exceptional nearby restaurants like Oliva Enoteca. Savoring Yucatan-inspired cuisine is the perfect way to cap off a day of diving!
When you're ready to explore the Yucatan's underwater worlds on your Merida vacation, consider a diving expedition with Explorer Divers Merida.
