About
Blue Hole Park is an absolutely beautiful park to sit and gaze at the water, but it also is filled with adventure opportunities thanks to the river and falls.
I have walked (and biked) along the path just to marvel at the beauty of this area. When you need a break from your busy life, just spend 30 minutes here, and all your worldly worries will melt away.
While walking around the path, there are several stopping points where you can take some photos. There are some benches to sit and relax, too. If you have the time, do so and just listen to the nature that exists everywhere, it’s incredible.
The park is filled with tall oak trees that feel like they’ve been there forever. There’s a lot of lush greenery around every corner, just begging to be explored.
This is a rather beautiful park, and I find that it is quite interesting just to check out the falls, wade through the water a bit, and relax. However, a lot of people bring their entire family with them to splash in the fun. Having a gathering isn’t uncommon because, well, it’s free, and it’s a fun way to cool down.
Also, you can fish here, which makes for a lazy weekend morning. I love that you can tuck away under one of the trees, sit down, and hope for the best. Though I haven’t caught anything, you can find rainbow trout in good demand here most of the time.
Blue Hole Park is a nature getaway in the middle of the city that is definitely worth a visit!
Interesting Facts About Blue Hole Park
As you walk along the path, you’ll notice the limestone bluffs around every bend. It’s this formation, likely carved from a glacier, that makes it super interesting and beautiful. It runs along the South Fork of the San Gabriel River, which can get rather high from time to time.
Pack a lunch and enjoy the picnic tables. There are grills here, too. And if you want to plan an outing for your group, you can make it a whole day. Go fishing, enjoy some lunch, have some fun in the water, and relax.
And since Blue Hole Park is about six blocks from the heart of the city, you can go for a walk on your lunch break or take a wine-down stroll after work. It’s rather easy to get to and, if you are spending the day at the park, you can walk to some of the area restaurants as well.
Getting There
It’s easy enough to get here. It is right off I-35. If you know where the town square area is, it’s about six blocks to the north of it. It’s not hard to find since it is a major body of water.
Cost
There’s no cost to visiting Blue Hole Park or using any of the amenities.
Local Tips
- The parking situation can be odd. It’s located in front of houses, and you can then enter the park at the Georgetown cemetery. There’s also a parking area on the 3rd Street and Rock Street corner.
- You can swim here, but you may wish to be careful doing so as there’s no lifeguard, and the water may contain bacteria since it is a natural body of water. Still, a lot of people swim and wade in the water because, well, it’s a great way to cool down.
- If you plan to use the barbeque and picnic tables here, get there early as they can fill up quickly, and that makes it much more difficult to find available locations.
- You can bring your pet (and they can go in the water), but they must stay on a leash the whole time.
