Barton Springs Municipal Pool

Barton Springs Municipal Pool in Austin, Texas, is a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike. 

Located on the edge of Zilker Park, it is a great place to escape the heat and enjoy the outdoors. The pool itself measures three acres in size and is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, making it ideal for year-round swimming.

The pool has been a popular destination since the early 1900s when it was used as a recreational area by local residents. It has since become one of Austin's most iconic spots, with its crystal clear spring water and unique rock formation. 

The atmosphere around the pool is relaxed and inviting, with plenty of facilities and amenities available such as restrooms, showers, picnic tables, grills, and playgrounds for you to enjoy.

On my visit to Barton Springs Pool in Highland Lakes, Texas, I was welcomed by warm sunshine and gentle breezes. Interestingly, the water temperature is comfortable enough for swimming all year round, and with a vibrant blue-green color, it was impossible not to want to jump right in! 

But before taking a swim, I spent some time exploring the rock formations that surround the pool. The natural beauty of this place is truly remarkable—from its clear spring water to its unique rock formation, I was blown away by how beautiful this urban oasis was. 

With plenty of plants and lush foliage surrounding the area, I couldn’t help but feel like I was in a remote part of nature, away from the hustle and bustle of life. From its natural beauty to its inviting atmosphere, it's no wonder why this spot has become such a beloved destination among locals and visitors alike. 

Whether you're looking for a place to cool off on hot days or just want to enjoy some quality time outdoors with friends or family—Barton Springs Pool is definitely worth checking out!

Interesting Facts 

While visiting Barton Springs Pool in the Highland Lakes region of Texas, I discovered some super interesting facts. 

First, Barton Springs Pool is home to several endangered species of fish. These include the Barton Springs Salamander, which is found nowhere else in the world, as well as Guadalupe Bass and other native species. In addition to providing habitat for these species, the pool also serves as a refuge for migrating birds during their annual migrations.

Thankfully, I didn’t run into any of these fish while swimming, but I did find it super cool that there are Barton Springs Salamanders! 

Second, Barton Springs Pool has been around since 1837, when it was first created by settlers who used the area as a watering hole for their cattle. Over time, it became a popular spot for swimming and recreation and eventually became part of Zilker Park in 1917. 

Today, visitors can still enjoy swimming in its crystal clear waters or take part in activities such as kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding.

And lastly, this one-of-kind pool is truly one of the most unique places to visit in Austin due to its natural beauty and history. Because of this, it's also home to several events throughout the year, such as concerts and festivals that celebrate its unique culture and heritage.
