About

Lucille is a fabulous location to meet friends for drinks. It is a charming bar that has a big, shaded area outdoors to relax. And the location is pet friendly! I bring my pup with me and walk to the area, sit down with a drink, and take in the location.

It’s quite a beautiful place, but it’s also fun.

That’s because they have a number of large games to play, including Jenga, Connect 4, and checkers. I love that adults can have fun playing games they grew up with here.

Most of the seating here is outdoors—with a small indoor area, but outdoors where I enjoy spending time. On a hot summer day, I cannot tell you how good those big fans and covered shaded area feels.

You certainly don’t feel like you are at a bar here, but instead in the backyard with friends. Inside is a bit more intimate, with a more traditional bar setup. It’s a great place to spend some time at night when it’s too cold to go outdoors.

But to really appreciate this cute spot, you have to know a bit about the name. Lucille was a flapper that lived in the 1920s and used her house for singing, dancing, and enjoying fancy drinks.

She loved everyone and was well-known in the area for her personality. She was noted for having plenty of lavish parties at her home. However, one night, she vanished after talking to a handsome stranger.

The building was left empty for many years and ended up in a state of disarray. Eventually, the current owners took over and renovated the space, welcoming Lucille back to the Rainey Street community.

Vibe

The entire vibe here is fun!

With a huge indoor and outdoor bar, you can choose where you want to relax. Bring a friend and have some fun catching up, or meet new people and play a few games.

Who knows, maybe Lucille from time past will join you!

Either way, people are always having a good time! You do have to be over 21 to visit.

Lucille: Menu & Drinks

Strictly a fun bar, Lucille does not have food. However, before I go, I usually enjoy grabbing a bite to eat.

As for what’s on the drink menu, most of what’s served is local Texas liquor, and they incorporate a range of different, fresh ingredients in it.

All drinks are handmade (no mixes and no guessing by the inexperienced bartender, like I’ve had happen at other locations). They also have local beers on tap, which is perfect when the day is hot and long.

One of my favorite options is the Lucille Cucumbertini.

It’s incredibly refreshing on a very hot day and still gives you that punch you need to get through it all. I also recommend Deep Eddy Sweet Tea, which is also refreshing and packed with flavor.

While we were there, my friend got the El Jefe Loca-Rita, which was pretty intense for a margarita-style drink.

Local Tips

  • Head outdoors with your drink and choose one of the side tables for privacy and more intimate conversations.
  • You can bring a big group here. There are plenty of bar seats and a few booths that are big enough for larger groups of 6 to 10 people. It’s perfect for a bachelor’s party.
  • Lucille’s is located in the Rainey Street District, so there’s plenty to do here, but I encourage you to spend some time at one of the food trailers when you want to grab something to eat. You can bring your food to Lucille’s with you! Get some BBQ or tacos and have a seat.
  • It’s super busy on Saturday nights, but come on a Tuesday or Wednesday (and early) when you want something a bit quieter.
