About

Memorial Hill is a testament to the courage and sacrifices of countless Utahns who served in global wars.

This solemn landmark in Midway, near Heber and Park City, was established in the 1920s and completed in 1927. The memorial symbolizes the deep appreciation and remembrance of Wasatch County's veterans.

Tragically, the memorial was vandalized, with plaques listing every county veteran stolen. It took significant efforts by a dedicated committee to restore these names, including Wasatch County veterans from conflicts as far back as the War of 1812.

The hill offers a serene environment where visitors can reflect on the profound sacrifices made by these heroes. It provides a panoramic 360-degree view of the valley, adding to its solemn beauty.

One notable feature is the Fallen Soldier Battle Cross, a tradition dating back to the Civil War that honors soldiers from Wasatch County who died in service.

Families of Wasatch County veterans who served in various military branches can request to add their loved ones' names to this memorial, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Fun Facts & Cool Features

The property, which includes Memorial Hill, was once owned by Jesse Hughes McCarrell, affectionately known as "Uncle Jesse." Later, it was owned by Elijah Watkins, after which the county acquired it for memorializing local area war veterans from several conflicts.

A distinctive feature of Memorial Hill is the spiral road winding around it to the top. This design serves as a practical means of ascent and adds to the hill's aesthetic appeal.

The road is open year-round and accessible to vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians. It offers different experiences across seasons. It is open to cars in summer, while it becomes a tranquil, vehicle-free path in winter.

At the summit, visitors are greeted with stunning views of Heber Valley, Deer Creek Reservoir, and the Wasatch Mountains, including the prominent Mount Timpanogos.

This scenic beauty, coupled with the solemnity of the memorial, creates a profoundly moving experience.

For a historic and memorable experience, add Memorial Hill to your Heber City to-do list.
