Located in a renovated 1915 building, Firehouse Brewing Co. became South Dakota's oldest operating brewery when it opened in 1991. Named after the fire station that once occupied the tall building, this hotspot (sorry!) is a working brewery and restaurant where families gather for classic American food, house-smoked BBQ, and craft beers.
With its success, the Firehouse brand grew, opening three sister concepts just steps away. Head upstairs to the third floor to discover Firehouse Skybox. This is a sports-lover’s heaven, with 39 flat-screen TVs tuned to various sporting events.
The menu has various salads, an assortment of gourmet burgers and wings, an array of artisan pizzas, and a kids’ menu, making this a place the entire family will enjoy!
For a more upscale setting, visit the Firehouse Wine Cellars next door, which features award-winning wines in its tasting room. The vibe leans toward a quiet and social atmosphere, ideal for couples or small groups. You can add an artisan charcuterie board to pair with your wines or order a pie from Firehouse Pizzeria that's located inside Firehouse Wine Cellars.

The 1915 brick fire station features tall arched bays where fire engines once rolled out. Etched in stone above the doors is“Rapid City Fire Dept.”, while the eatery’s name in large white letters marks the roofline. Add the fire-engine-red trim around doors and windows, the exterior mural of firefighters, and the structure blazes with integrity and intrigue.
The firefighting theme continues inside, with the original fire pole, ladders, helmets, patches, and vintage photographs.
Regarding seating, the bar area will appeal to solo diners or those who want to chat with staff. Table seating fills the main dining room and upper level, suitable for families and larger groups. The Wings & Rings is a popular appetizer, featuring six breaded and deep-fried wings (bone-in or boneless) with six onion rings. It comes with a side of ranch dressing, and you can add carrots and celery for an additional charge.
Another starter that’s the rave is the Fire Caps, showcasing mushroom caps filled with crab meat and garlic-herbed cream cheese. Swiss and cheddar jack cheese cover the mushrooms, and then baked to a golden brown.
Jumping to the entrees, the sky’s the limit when it comes to flavors. A spicy New Orleans hit is the Spontaneous Heating, that’s a creative twist on gumbo. This meal features chicken, Andouille sausage, shrimp, clams, and
okra in a spicy Creole sauce. It’s served on seasoned harvest rice with green onions.
The house-smoked BBQ is another standout. Smoked on-site, you can choose from ribs, chicken, and pulled pork. Add some sides and one of the house-made sauces like Smokejumper, and you have a hearty meal.
