About

Some of the best mountain mornings start with hot coffee and a plate made from scratch. As part of the Angel Fire community for nearly four decades, Morning Star Restaurant is a familiar spot for locals and visitors looking for simple, homemade, New Mexican dishes.

Originally opened inside the Elk Horn Lodge in 1985, the Morning Star Restaurant became a local dining staple there for a decade. Reopened in the fall of 2021 in its original location, the Morning Star revived this welcome spot that had come to have great meaning within the community. Today, the restaurant specializes in fresh, homemade breakfast and lunch cooked to order every day.

With over four decades in the community, owners Stuart and Liliana run the place with pride, and guests mention meeting them during visits. Their special ingredient of building long-standing relationships with locals and visitors alike translates into many fulfilling mealtime memories.

Vibe

Elk Horn Lodge sits along Mountain View Blvd, which is the main corridor through Angel Fire, providing a view of the pine-covered slopes of the Moreno Valley. The lodge setting matches the relaxed, high-country character of the town perched above 8,000 feet.

Inside, the dining room is clean, casual, and comfortable. Tables suit families, groups, and solo diners. Free Wi-Fi helps travelers map out the rest of the day. A kids' menu and vegan options mean everyone at the table finds something to enjoy.

The atmosphere is warm and unhurried, which is intentional. Morning Star prides itself on providing a relaxed, family-friendly breakfast or lunch experience. One can sum it up well as great service, good vibes, and excellent coffee.

Morning Star Restaurant: Menu & Drinks

The menu at the Morning Star blends diner classics with Mexican-inspired dishes. Expect burgers, chicken fried steak, omelets, enchiladas, daily specials, and homemade pies. Locals and visitors return for consistent food, friendly service, and generous portions.

The Smothered Breakfast Burrito is a smart pick before a day on the trails or slopes. It arrives covered in sauce, with green chile bringing classic New Mexico heat to every bite.

Huevos Rancheros stays true to Southwestern tradition. Eggs, tortillas, and savory sauce come together in a filling plate that tastes like home cooking.

The Keto Tacos surprise first-timers. The shells are made from cheese instead of tortillas, and diners can't stop talking about them. Servers recommend them for good reason.

Drinks keep things simple. Choose from fresh hot coffee, cappuccino, espresso, hot chocolate, or a thick milkshake. On a chilly mountain morning, a warm mug feels just right.

Morning Star Restaurant offers what every vacation needs: honest food, fair portions, and people who care about their guests. It's family-friendly, easy to reach, and open six days a week.
