Rocky Point Beaches<\/h2>\n

Mexico has world-renowned beaches and Playa Bonita Beach (also known as Sandy Beach) is no exception. Here, when the tide goes out, it goes out… way out. This leaves little tidal pools to explore. The water is clear and calm. Vendors with food, cold drinks, jewelry and sunglasses will have everything you need for a great day at the beach.<\/p>\n

Of course, many visitors want to play in the water. Whether you want to try stand-up paddle-boarding, riding the waves on a jet ski or bouncing along on a banana boat, there is an activity for you. Gear rental companies can help you with water skis, kayaks, canoes and more.<\/p>\n

Landmarks<\/h2>\n

Old Port is the historic fishing village part of Rocky Point. Shop owners will ‘haggle’ with you over the price of shell chimes, beach bags and painted flamingos. Restaurants serve up fresh seafood tacos and bars have balconies overlooking the streets – perfect for drinking some tequila and people-watching. At the top of the hill is an old lighthouse overlooking the rocky waters below. A sea wall lined with benches is a perfect place sit and watch the turquoise waters.<\/p>\n

Fishing Charters<\/h2>\n

Rocky Point is an active fishing village. You can watch boats come and go in the mornings and evenings – or you can join in the fun with one of the many fishing charters. Good captains can put you on the fish and help you to catch them. The great fishing charters will clean and fillet your fish for you. Take them to the fabulous kitchen of one of those vacation rentals and cook them up for supper.<\/p>\n

When the boats are not being used for fishing, they are used for whale-watching tours, trips to Bird Island and for spotting dolphins. Captains will help you spot the marine mammals and even get close enough for you to take great pictures of the pods and tail fins.<\/p>\n

Mountains<\/h2>\n

Drive down a winding dirt road past craters and cinder cones where lava flows freely. This is El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve<\/a>. Here, huge craters are ringed with cacti and tumbleweeds. Jagged lava rock formations look like something straight out of Hell. Rugged mountains in the background add to the mystic beauty of this desert landscape. Overnight camping is allowed in certain areas of the biosphere. There is a picnic area, too – perfect for having lunch while you enjoy the views. Look across the black lava fields to see the volcanoes. Murals and other artistic displays welcome people to the visitor’s center. Inside, displays showcase native animals, artwork and artifacts.<\/p>\n

Have a Shot<\/h2>\n

After the lava fields and volcanoes you may need a stiff drink. Manny’s Tequila Factory is here to help. Nine different tequila flavors are made here including tamarind, coffee, caramel, and almond. Tour the place and learn how tequila is made. There are generous samples to enjoy and Manny himself will entertain you with jokes and shots until you can stand no more (pun intended).<\/p>\n
